FAQ
What is Science?
Science is both a body of knowledge and a process.
What does a Scientific Paper look like?
Most scientific papers are available on arXiv (pronounced as archive).
- Navigate to https://arxiv.org
- Select your field, for example Astrophysics.
- Select that fields 'current months listing', for example Astrophysics
- Find a paper that is of interest and select ''html'.
You generally need to have dedicated your life to contribute at the leading edge of some scientific fields. In some cases that could be just a few hundred people on Earth with everyone else, including experts in other fields, only having an understanding of the concepts.
There is a Pale Blue Pod interview on the good and the bad with the current state of academic publishing and the peer review process.
Why not get behind a existing science book or scientific paper?
Our preference was to make an existing scientific paper the biggest selling book of all time. Ideally a historic paper. However, this became legally complex very quickly.
There are many great science books that have already been highly successful and are on all our bookshelves. The biggest-selling science books are all popular science books, as they have the broadest appeal, are believed to be:
- Cosmos by Carl Sagan (40 million)
- A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking (25 million)
- The Naked Ape by Desmond Morris (20 million)
- A Universe from Nothing by Lawrence M Krauss (Laurence)
- The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins (R)
- Astrophysics for People in a Hurry by Neil deGrasse Tyson (Tyson)
However, we required a solution that provided copyright flexibility. This ruled out existing publications. For example, early on, we needed it to be available for free and have language translations.
The classification of 'The Process of Science' as a reference/science book.
Who inspired the books contents?
Content creators, such as Universe Today, SciManDan & Professor Dave Explains on (YouTube) and SGU (podcast) work very hard undoing the damaged caused by people without a basic scientific knowledge.
They are constantly explaining areas such as bias, cognitive dissonance and the scientific processes.
This book is designed to provide a highly simplified explanation of knowledge, personal bias, scientific theory, and the process of science.
Who are the authors?
Laurence R Tyson is the pen name for a small group of working engineers and scientists from Europe, Australia & America.
The authors wish to remain anonymous, the Project should not be associated with individuals.
The Process of Science is free to reproduce without requiring any permission.
The authors have allowed all or part of this work to be reproduced without requiring any permission of the publisher. If you reproduce the diagrams, credit ScienceWorldRecord.org.
Why is this book freely available?
Every copy you purchase for 1 cent matters, but we don’t want to you to be forced into it. Hence, we have made if freely available.
It means that if you purchase the book for 1 cent, and then complain that it is only 4 pages, you don't really have much to complain about.
Why is this book only 4 pages?
This simplicity was hard to achieve in such a complex and wide-ranging topic. Even the Wikipedia article on this topic is 25 pages.
The authors believe that in another book, every line of text could be a page and each diagram a chapter. But they wanted this book to be as simple as possible, and this is as simple as it gets.
How is the Project Funded and where are profits donated?

The use of the word "Theory".
Do not confuse the everyday use of the word "theory" with the way science (and this Project) uses the word "theory".

Science does not conflict with your religious beliefs.
This Process of Science deals with scientific theory and facts. Your beliefs and Science should never be in conflict.
If you feel there is a conflict then you are misinterpreting either; scientific theory or fact or beliefs.
Science never asks anyone to believe, and beliefs should never overrule what we can confidently prove.
If you have religious beliefs, this Project is for you.
Science does not conflict with God.
The Process of Science only deals with ideas that can be proven false. Because the existence of God can never be proven false, it must fall outside of the scientific domain.
For example, if science discovers the atom, it can be argued that God created atoms. If science then discovers quarks, it can be argued that God created quarks.
The concept that God created something can never be proven false so it has no value from a scientific perspective and must fall outside the scientific domain.
If you believe in God, this Project is for you.
